*Nitrazepam*

#Pharmacological_Action : Accumulation and residual effects can be avoided only if ingestion is occasional. Good for patients with frequent nocturnal awakenings, when some day time sedation is acceptable. 

It acts by enhancing presynaptic/postsynaptic inhibition through a specific BZD receptor which is the integral part of GABA receptor - Cl channel complex.

*Diazepam*

#Formulations : Tablet, Injection, Syrup

#Brand_Names : Valium, Calmpose, Placidox

#Pharmacological_Action : It generates active metabolites. Because of rapid oral absorption, it can be used for sleep maintenance. It acts by enhancing presynaptic/postsynaptic inhibition through a specific BZD receptor which is the integral part of GABA receptor - Cl channel complex.

#Therapeutic_Uses : used as hypnotics.

*Alprazolam*

#Formulations : NA

#Brand_Names : NA

#Pharmacological_Action : It acts by enhancing presynaptic/postsynaptic inhibition through a specific BZD receptor which is the integral part of GABA receptor - Cl channel complex. Its active metabolites has a short half- life. Discontinuation after regular use has produced relatively marked withdrawal phenomena.
